Measuring Up wins Cybils in Graphic Novel Elementary/Middle Grade

Hello, Friends,

I want to share the unbelievable and amazing news that Measuring Up won the Cybils Award in Elementary/Middle Grade Graphic Novels. What a wonderful Valentine's Day gift! Right now, I'm celebrating with a giant bowl of buttered popcorn!

Check out the Cybils winners in the other categories! http://www.cybils.com/2022/02/the-2022-cybils-winners.html

Measuring Up is also on the Wisconsin Reading Association's Just One More Page Reading List and a finalist in the South Carolina Association of School Librarians. More books to check out in those links!

For you librarians, the American Library Association's "Talk Story is a literacy program that celebrates American Indian, Asian, and Pacific Islander families' stories through books, storytelling, and art. Going on its thirteenth cycle, AILA and APALA are partnering on this Talk Story grant program to allocate funding to libraries and community organizations to implement intergenerational literacy programming. Two grant winners for each organization, a total of four winners, will receive $500 each to fund a program that meets the criteria of the grant. Planned programs can be in-person or virtual." Deadline is March 15, 2022. http://www.apalaweb.org/talkstorytogether/grant/

And lastly, I thought my Newsletter Book Club meets next Sunday. But, it meets in two weeks on February 27th. Thanks to Janel C. for the heads up.

Happy Valentine's Day and Single's Awareness Day!

I did a panel for the NY ComicCon but it was virtual. I did a panel for the Texas Book Festival but it was virtual. I did many, many school visits but they were all virtual. You can imagine how very...

Hi, Reader, Lucien and I had the most amazing whirlwind trip of a lifetime. It started out as a trip to the SLAM Festival in Tampa, FL. And, then the BAM Festival in West Palm Beach, FL asked me to go. Of course, I had to say yes. Then a school and library in Lewiston, ME asked for an author visit. We were driving from Florida to Montreal to visit my son, so of course, I had to say yes. Then the Sharjah Children's Reading Festival in the United Arab Emirates asked me. The UAE! So of course I...

Hello Reader, Thank you so much for signing up for my very occasional newsletter. I'll send news of future giveaways and other info you might find useful. And, here is the recipe for my mom's dumpling (水餃 tsuí-kiáu). This is a great recipe for having your young reader help you with the filling-the-dumplings part of the recipe. Servings: about 30 dumplings Ingredients: 1/2 lb ground pork 2 tablespoon minced scallions 1 tablespoon finely minced (or pureed) ginger 1 bunch minced chives 3 1/2...
